==Etymology== The Cholanaikkan call themselves as ‘Malanaikan’ or ‘Sholanaikan’. They are called Cholanaikan because they inhabit the interior forests. ‘Chola’ or ‘shola’ means patches of stunted forest lined by grasslands, and ‘naikan’ means King. They are said to have migrated from Mysore forests.
