Christian Thomasius

Christian Thomasius (1655–1728) was a jurist, philosopher, university teacher, and journalist from the Electorate of Saxony. Born in Leipzig and dying in Halle (Saale), he held a doctorate and worked in the fields of digital humanities, philosophy, political science, art, computer science, and history. He was educated at Leipzig University and the University of Frankfurt an der Oder, with Valentin Alberti and his father, Jakob Thomasius, serving as his doctoral advisors.

Thomasius was employed by Leipzig University, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, and the University of Frankfurt an der Oder. His work locations included Leipzig, Halle (Saale), and Frankfurt (Oder). He taught students including Andreas Rüdiger and Nicolaus Hieronymus Gundling. Among his notable works are *Theses Inaugurales, de Crimine Magiae*, *De Iure Circa Somnum et Somnia*, *De Crimine Bigamiae*, and *Fundamenta Iuris Naturae et Gentium*. He spoke and wrote in Latin.
