Konversionsstörungen sind eine Gruppe neurotischer Störungen. In der internationalen Klassifikation psychischer Störungen ICD-10 werden sie synonym als dissoziative Störungen bezeichnet. Typische Symptome sind ein Verlust des Identitätsbewusstseins, Erinnerungsstörungen und eine mangelnde Kontrolle über Körperbewegungen. Patienten nehmen neurologische Symptome wie Taubheit, Blindheit, Lähmung, ungewollte Muskelkontraktionen oder Anfälle wahr, für die keine neurologische Ursache zu finden ist. Es wird derzeit vermutet, dass diese Probleme in Reaktion auf Schwierigkeiten im Leben des Patienten entstehen. Im US-amerikanischen Klassifikationssystem DSM-IV wird die Konversionsstörung als somatoforme Störung verstanden.
