Wachtelkönig

The Corn Crake (*Crex crex*) is a species of bird belonging to the family Rallidae within the order Gruiformes. Described by Linnaeus in 1758, it is classified under the phylum Chordata and class Aves. The species has an accepted taxonomic status and is also referred to by the names Wachtelkönig, Guión de codornices, and rhegen yr ŷd.

Its range includes South America, Africa, Brazil, and Burkina Faso. The Corn Crake is described as a regular passage visitor. It has a wingspan of 50, a mass of 13.2, and an egg incubation period of 17. The average litter size is 9.8.

The IUCN Red List assessed the species as Least Concern in 2025. However, it holds a regional conservation status of Endangered. The taxon is not extinct.
