A corvette or corvet is a small warship. It is traditionally the smallest class of vessel considered to be a proper (or "rated") warship. The warship class above the corvette is that of the frigate, while the class below was historically that of the sloop-of-war.
A corvette is a small warship that holds the distinction of being the smallest vessel officially classified as a proper warship, sitting between frigates (larger) and sloops-of-war (smaller, historically). Corvettes gained prominence during World War II and continue to be widely used by navies today, making them an important part of modern naval forces.
