David (Hebreeuws: דָּוִד, דָּוִיד, "lieveling", c. 1040 v. Chr. tot 970 v. Chr.) was volgens de Hebreeuwse Bijbel de tweede koning van het Verenigd Koninkrijk Israël en stamvader van het huis van David, dat tot de 6e eeuw v.Chr. in Jeruzalem aan de macht zou blijven over het koninkrijk Juda. Hij regeerde veertig jaar van c. 1010 v.Chr. tot c. 970 v.Chr., waarvan zeven over Juda vanuit Hebron en 33 over het Verenigd Koninkrijk Israël vanuit Jeruzalem. Hij wordt beschreven als een rechtvaardige koning, hoewel hij niet foutloos was, een gewaardeerd krijger, muzikant en dichter, aan wie traditioneel vele Psalmen worden toegeschreven. David is een zeer belangrijk persoon binnen het jodendom en christendom. In het jodendom en christendom is David een profeet, de koning van Israël en de Joden en een voorvader van de Messias. Volgens de evangelies van Matteüs en Lucas was hij via Jozef een voorouder van Jezus. In de islam heet hij Dawud (Arabisch: داوود of داود Dāwūd) en wordt hij beschouwd als een profeet en de koning van een natie.
