Most of it is blue and white pottery, and the city of Delft in the Netherlands was the major centre of production, but the term covers wares with other colours, and made elsewhere. It is also used for similar pottery, English delftware.

Con il termine ceramica di Delft o maiolica di Delft si indica un celebre prodotto artigianale dei Paesi Bassi, in particolare della città di Delft. Il termine ceramica di Delft è passato ad indicare tutta la produzione ceramistica olandese. Questa ceramica è stata esportata in tutto il mondo e le cui origini risalgono alla fine del XVI. Il prodotto, uno dei principali del genere in Europa tra il 1600 e il 1800, si caratterizza solitamente per le decorazioni di colore blu ed è per questo conosciuto anche come "blu di Delft" (in olandese: Delfts blauw). Tra i principali ceramisti olandesi, in particolare dello stile Art Nouveau, vi fu (1841-1930). Oggi, delle fabbriche originarie ne sopravvive a Delft soltanto una, De Porceleyne Fles.
