Delitzsch ([ˈdeːlɪtʃ], aus altsorbisch děľc oder delč für „Hügel“) ist eine Große Kreisstadt und ein Mittelzentrum im Nordwesten des Freistaates Sachsen. Sie ist nach der Einwohnerzahl die größte Stadt im Landkreis Nordsachsen und nach Leipzig, Halle und Merseburg viertgrößte Stadt im Ballungsraum Leipzig-Halle. Archäologische Spuren auf dem Stadtgebiet deuten auf eine bäuerliche Besiedlung in der Jungsteinzeit hin. Delitzsch wurde wohl 1207 erstmals erwähnt. Im 17./18. Jahrhundert war die Stadt Witwen- und Reisesitz des Herzogtums Sachsen-Merseburg. Vom Wohlstand im Spätmittelalter und der Frühen Neuzeit zeugt vor allem die gut erhaltene und durch verschiedene architektonische Epochen geprägte Altstadt mit dem Barockschloss, der Stadtbefestigung, ihren Plätzen, Bürger- und Patrizierhäusern und Stadttürmen. Das Stadtgebiet der Mittelstadt und ihre Umgebung sind von ausgedehnten Gewässer-, Wander- und Radwegnetzen sowie Naturschutzgebieten geprägt.
