In France during World War I, Marthe waits for her husband, Jacques, while he fights on the front lines. Marthe then begins a tempestuous affair with 17-year-old François, with whom she had a dalliance before marrying Jacques. Jealous François struggles with the fact that Marthe is married, while she tries to prove her devotion to her young, hotheaded lover. Things become even more complex when Marthe becomes pregnant with Jacques' baby.

Diabeł wcielony (fr. Le diable au corps) – francuski film z 1947 roku w reżyserii Claude Autant-Lara. Powstał na podstawie powieści Raymonda Radigueta. Bohaterem filmu jest François, wspominający dzieje swojego romansu ze starszą o kilka lat zamężną kobietą. Miłość pary spotyka się z powszechnym potępieniem, jako że mąż bohaterki jest żołnierzem walczącym na frontach I wojny światowej. Film był dziełem skandalizującym, uznawano, że jego przekaz jest niepatriotyczny i amoralny. Podczas projekcji filmu na festiwalu w Brukseli, ambasador francuski, zgorszony treścią obrazu, opuścił kino. W 1955 roku Diabła wcielonego nagrodzono we Francji nagrodą , w tym samym roku film otrzymał w USA New York Film Critics Award for Best Foreign Film. Diabeł wcielony zapoczątkował karierę filmową Gérarda Philipe'a.
