Il s'agit autant de l'adaptation du roman Docteur Sleep (2013) de Stephen King que de la suite centrée sur le personnage de « Danny Torrance » du film Shining (1980) réalisé et coécrit par Stanley Kubrick d'après Shining, l'enfant lumière (1977) écrit par le même auteur.
