5.1After the elevators at a New York City skyscraper begin inexplicably malfunctioning, putting its passengers at risk, mechanic Mark Newman and reporter Jennifer Evans begin separate investigations. Newman gets resistance from superiors at his company, which manufactured the elevator, while additional elevator incidents cause several gruesome deaths. The police get involved and suspect that terrorists are responsible, but a far stranger explanation looms.

Down is een Nederlands-Amerikaanse speelfilm uit 2001, geregisseerd door Dick Maas. Het is een remake van Maas' eerdere Nederlandstalige film De Lift, die zich in Amstelveen afspeelt. In eerste instantie zou de film "The Elevator" gaan heten, later is dat veranderd in "Down". In de VS is de film verschenen onder de naam "The Shaft".
