Downpatrick

Also known as Down, co. Down, Down, County Down

Downpatrick () is a town in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is on the Lecale peninsula, about south of Belfast. In the Middle Ages, it was the capital of the Dál Fiatach, the main ruling dynasty of Ulaid. Its cathedral is said to be the burial place of Saint Patrick. Today, it is the county town of Down and the joint headquarters of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. Downpatrick had a population of 11,545 according to the 2021 Census.

Downpatrick (iriska: Dún Phádraig) är en stad i Down i Nordirland, belägen cirka 33 kilometer söder om Belfast. Staden är traditionell huvudort för grevskapet Down, och hade år 2001 totalt 10 316 invånare. Staden är mest känd för att St. Patrick begravdes här. Hans grav i katedralen är än idag ett pilgrimsmål, speciellt på St. Patricks dag den 17 mars. Det är möjligt att graven egentligen inte är hans riktiga begravningsplats eftersom det även sägs att han begravdes i byn Saul, strax utanför staden. Ingen vet dock säkert.
