الرؤيا أو الحُلم سلسلة من التخيلات التي تحدث أثناء النوم، وتختلف الأحلام في مدى تماسكها ومنطقيتها، وتوجد كثير من النظريات التي تفسر حدوث الأحلام، فيقول سيغموند فرويد أن الأحلام هي وسيلة تلجأ إليها النفس لإشباع رغباتها ودوافعها المكبوتة خاصة التي يكون إشباعها صعباً في الواقع. ففي الأحلام يرى الفرد دوافعه قد تحققت في صورة حدث أو موقف والمثل الشعبي القائل: «الجوعان يحلم بسوق العيش» خير تعبير على هذا، ولكن غالباً ما تكون الرغبات في الحلم مموهة أو مخفية بحيث لا يعي الحالم نفسه معناها، ولذلك فإن كثير من الأحلام تبدو خالية من المعنى والمنطق شبيهة بتفكير المجانين على عكس أحلام اليقظة التي تكون منطقية جداً. ودراسة الأحلام وُجدت لها آثار على الألواح الحجرية التي ترجع إلى حضارة سومر. واعتقدت بعض الشعوب القديمة مثل: الإغريق أن الأحلام عموماً هبة من الآلهة لكشف معلومات للبشر وزرع رسالة معينة في عقل الشخص النائم.
