Dryopithecus is een geslacht van uitgestorven mensapen uit het Mioceen. Omdat hij veel trekken vertoont van de moderne mensapen, wordt hij wel gezien als een voorouder van de hedendaagse grote mensapen. Hij leefde in Azië, Afrika en later ook Europa. Hij was ongeveer zo groot als een chimpansee, leefde in bomen en at voornamelijk fruit.
