Edith Nesbit (15 August 1858 — 4 May 1924) was an English writer and poet, who published books for children and others as E. Nesbit. She wrote or collaborated on more than sixty such books. Nesbit was also a political activist and co-founder of the Fabian Society, a socialist organisation later affiliated to the Labour Party. Edith Nesbit (Kennington, 15 de agosto de 1858 – , 4 de maio de 1924) foi uma escritora e poeta inglesa, que publicou suas histórias infantis sob o pseudônimo andrógino de E. Nesbit. Escreveu ou colaborou com mais de sessenta livros de ficção para crianças, muitos deles adaptados para o cinema e para a televisão. Começou um novo gênero de aventuras mágicas, assentados sobre lugares cotidianos, e foi muito imitada. Edith Nesbit publicou livros conhecidos como Cinco Crianças e um Segredo entre outros. Aventurou-se em outros estilos, como os contos sobrenaturais, tendo escrito romances, poemas e contos de horror. Era também ativista política e foi co-fundadora da Fabian Society, uma organização socialista depois filiada ao Partido Trabalhista.
