Edmond Classen ging na zijn HBS-tijd, waarin hij zich al bezig hield met toneel, naar de Maastrichtse Toneelacademie. In 1960 deed hij eindexamen en speelde hij als koning Hiëronymus zijn eerste rol in De schaduw van de koning van Aad Greidanus. Via Arena/De nieuwe Komedie en het Nieuw Rotterdams Toneel sloot hij zich in 1971 aan bij Theater, aan welk gezelschap hij tien jaar verbonden bleef om vervolgens in de vrije sector te gaan spelen. Daarnaast werkte hij regelmatig voor radio en televisie.
