Dublin-born Emer Kenny began playing the harp when she was nine years old, eventually earning a scholarship to study at the College of Music in Dublin and Trinity College of Music in London. Her approachable blend of traditional Celtic music and lush technology landed her a record deal with Mercury and she released her debut album, Emer Kenny, in 1997.
