Empty Sky (dt.: Leerer Himmel) ist das Debütalbum des britischen Sängers und Komponisten Elton John. In den U.S.A. wurde die Schallplatte erst am 13. Januar 1975 veröffentlicht, nachdem er sich als Künstler bereits hatte etablieren können. Als sich Reginald Kenneth Dwight darüber klar geworden war, dass er die Gruppe Bluesology verlassen wollte, um mit dem Musikmanager Dick James neue musikalische Wege zu gehen und Popstar zu werden, beriet er sich mit seinen Bandmitgliedern über einen neuen Künstlernamen. Nachdem der Tenorsaxophonist Elton Dean ihm verwehrte, sich genauso zu nennen, ersetzte Dwight dessen Nachnamen durch den Vornamen des Bandleaders „Long“ John Baldry. Dagegen hatten beide nichts einzuwenden. Die erste Single unter dem neuen Namen Elton John wurde 1968 „I’ve Been Loving You“.
