Die etwa zehn Arten sind im Afrika südlich der Sahara verbreitet und werden dort Pineapple Flower (Englisch), Pineapple Lily (Englisch), Wildepynappel (Afrikaans), Krulkoppie (Afrikaans) oder Umathunga (Zulu) genannt. Einige Arten werden als Zierpflanzen verwendet.
