Eugene Ormandy (November 18, 1899–March 13, 1985) was a Hungarian-American conductor and violinist. Biography Eugene Ormandy, born Jenő Blau in Budapest, Hungary, began studying the violin at the National Hungarian Royal Academy of Music, now the Franz Liszt Academy of Music at the age of five. He gave his first concerts as a violinist at age seven, and graduated at fourteen with a master's degree. Eugene Ormandy (Budapeste, 18 de novembro de 1899 – Filadélfia, 12 de março de 1985) foi um eminente maestro e violinista. Foi diretor durante mais de 40 anos da Orquestra de Filadélfia. Nascido Jenõ Blau em Budapeste, Hungria. Ormandy começou a estudar violino na Academia Real de Música Nacional Húngara (atual Academia de Música Franz Liszt) aos cinco anos de idade. Ele realizou seu primeiro concerto como violinista aos sete anos de idade e se graduou aos quatorze. Em 1920, ele graduou-se em filosofia na universidade. Em 1921 mudou para os Estados Unidos. Nesse período, Blau mudou seu nome para "Eugene Ormandy"; "Eugene" é a versão em língua inglesa do nome "Jenő". Trabalhou como violinista na Orquestra do Teatro Capitol em Nova Iorque. Ele tornou-se o concertmaster após cinco dias e tornou-se maestro do grupo. Ormandy fez 16 gravações como violinista entre 1923 e 1929.
