Encyclopedic overview

A fantasia ( Italian: [fantaˈziːa]; also English: fantasy, fancy, fantazy, phantasy; German: Fantasie, Phantasie; French: fantaisie) is a musical composition with roots in improvisation. The fantasia, like the impromptu, seldom follows the textbook rules of any musical form.
