Muzieknotatie of notenschrift is een systeem van tekens dat gebruikt wordt om muziek op papier (of tegenwoordig ook op beeldschermen) vast te leggen, om later gelezen en ten gehore gebracht te worden. Het resultaat heet bladmuziek. Met vastleggen wordt bedoeld het op uniforme wijze noteren van duur, toonhoogte en uitvoeringspraktijk van de muziek. De 11e-eeuwse Italiaanse monnik Guido van Arezzo wordt beschouwd als de grondlegger van de hedendaagse muzieknotatie, al was die in de loop van de tijd wel onderhevig aan allerlei veranderingen, zoals bij het gregoriaans. Genoteerde muziek die bedoeld is voor een enkel instrument, musicus of muzikant wordt partij genoemd. Alle partijen samen vormen de partituur, die vooral gebruikt wordt door een dirigent.
