Fimbulwinter (, ) is the immediate prelude to the events of Ragnarök in Norse mythology.
==Etymology== comes from Old Norse, meaning "awful, mighty winter". The prefix fimbul, albeit with a largely unknown etymology, means "mighty, giant" etc., so the literal interpretation is "mighty winter".
