Vogels Sarothrura is een geslacht van vogels uit de familie Sarothruridae. Deze familie werd heel lang beschouwd als een onderfamilie van de rallen, koeten en waterhoentjes (rallidae).[1] DNA-onderzoek naar de taxonomie van de vogels na de eeuwwisseling wees uit dat deze groep weliswaar tot de orde van de Gruiformes behoorde, maar minder verwant was aan de rallidae en eerder verwant was aan de fuutkoeten (Heliornithidae).[2] Het geslacht telt 9 soorten.[3] In het Afrikaans worden de vogels vleikuikens genoemd. Sarothrura Heine, 1890 è un genere di uccelli della famiglia dei Sarotruridi. Questo genere è ristretto a sette specie diffuse in tutta l'Africa subsahariana e a due specie che vivono in Madagascar. Il nome comune inglese di questi animali, flufftails, si deve alla breve coda che presenta delle strane piume soffici. Tutte le specie, ad eccezione di Sarothrura ayresi, mostrano dimorfismo sessuale nel loro piumaggio, ma non nelle dimensioni.
