La commune possède un patrimoine naturel remarquable : un espace protégé (« la Barthe ») et une zone naturelle d'intérêt écologique, faunistique et floristique. Francon est une commune rurale qui compte 244 habitants en 2019, après avoir connu un pic de population de 645 habitants en 1841. Elle fait partie de l'aire d'attraction de Toulouse. Ses habitants sont appelés les Franconais ou Franconaises.
