Frédéric Back, OC CQ was a Canadian artist and film director of short animated films. During a long career with Radio-Canada, the French-language service of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, he was nominated for four Academy Awards, winning two, for his 1981 film Crac and the 1987 film The Man Who Planted Trees.

Frédéric Back né le 8 avril 1924 à Sarrebruck (Territoire du bassin de la Sarre) et mort le 24 décembre 2013 à Montréal (Canada) est un peintre, illustrateur et réalisateur de films d'animation canadien d'origine française. De renommée internationale, il est surtout connu pour ses deux Oscars (1982, 1988) et pour son film L'Homme qui plantait des arbres.
