Gamut (von „Γ ut“, sprich: „Gamma ut“, Ausgangspunkt des mittelalterlichen Tonsystems; zusammengezogen zu Gamut) bezeichnete ursprünglich im Zusammenhang mit der Guidonischen Hand die Gesamtheit aller möglichen Töne. Heute steht der Begriff im Zusammenhang mit der Farbpalette für die Menge aller Farben, die ein Gerät (z. B. Monitor, Drucker, Scanner, Filmkamera) darstellen, wiedergeben oder aufzeichnen kann. Formal ist Gamut der Körper im Farbraum, der mit dem jeweiligen Gerät durch innere Farbmischung nachgestellt werden kann.
