==Background== Gentildonna was a bay filly bred in Japan by the Northern Farm in Hokkaido. She was sired by the Japanese Triple Crown winner Deep Impact out of the British mare Donna Blini, who won the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes in 2005. Her full sister Donau Blue won the Kyoto Himba Stakes and Sekiya Kinen. The horse's name comes from the Italian word for "noble lady".
