Gessopalena (Abruzzese: '') is a comune and town in the province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region of central Italy.
== History == The territory of Gessopalena was historically part of the Arcisanum (from Latin arx, "citadel"), a domain of the Benedictine Abbey of Montecassino. In the 9th century, Abbot Bertarius (856–883) compiled a list of Cassinese possessions in Abruzzo, known as the Memoratorium, later incorporated into the Chronica Monasterii Casinensis. This inventory included monasteries, castles, and lands such as San Liberatore a Maiella, Casoli, Pennapiedimonte, Prata, Civitella Messer Raimondo, Fara San Martino, and Gessopalena itself.
