AI overview

Goryeo was a Korean kingdom founded in 918 that unified the Korean Peninsula and ruled it for nearly 500 years until it was replaced by the Joseon dynasty in 1392. It is historically significant because it achieved what Korean historians call a "true national unification" by bringing together the competing kingdoms of its era and incorporating the ruling class from the northern kingdom of Balhae.
