Also known as Proechimys guairae
species of mammal
Observations: Little is known about the longevity of these animals. It has been reported that they can live up to 7 years in captivity (Ronald Nowak 1999), but this has not been verified and could have been a result of confusion with the Andean spiny rat (*Proechimys gularis*).
