Hans Op de Beeck - Lakesidecollection
lakesidecollection.nl →Hans Op de Beeck is a Belgian artist born in Turnhout, a small town near Antwerp in 1969. Living in Belgium, he is one of the best-known artists in his country. Op de Beeck is best known for his monumental ‘sensorial’ installations, in which he evokes what he describes as ‘visual fictions’, tactile deserted spaces that act as an empty set for the viewer to engage with, walk through, and sit down. His works span across a multitude of disciplines: installations, sculptures, film, drawings, paintings, photographs, and text. In his art, Op de Beeck reflects on our complex society and the universal questions of meaning and mortality that come within. He often illustrates a man in a tragi-comic manner, emphasizing the world that people build for themselves. His works are represented in public collections of major institutions, such as Centre Pompidou in Paris, the AkzoNobel Art Foundation in Amsterdam, and the Royal Museum for Modern and Fine Arts in Brussels, among many more. He also held solo and group exhibitions around the world, some of them being in New York, Beijing, Milan, London, and Shanghai.
