Henry Bird

Henry Edward Bird was a male chess player, non-fiction writer, and chess composer from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Born in Hampshire in 1830, he represented England in chess and worked in the field of accounting. He wrote in English and authored four works, including *Chess History and Reminiscences*, *The Longevity of Osmunda Cinnamomea with Notes on Some Fern-Feeding Laruae*, *Specification of Henry Bird*, and *Narrative of Henry Bird Who Was Carried Away by the Indians After the Murder of His Whole Family in 1811*.

Bird died in London on April 11, 1908. While some records list an artist named Henry Bird in the United States associated with genres such as baroque pop and folk rock, the primary subject described here is the British chess professional and writer.
