In Greek mythology, Hippomenes (; ) is a Boeotian prince, the son of Megareus. Hippomenes married Atalanta, the virginal runner, after defeating her in a footrace with the help of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Later the two were transformed into lions when they offended the gods.
