Founded by the great Vijayanagara ruler Krishna Deva Raya in honor of his mother Nagamma, Hospet lies on the banks of the Tungabhadra River and serves as the gateway to the world-famous UNESCO heritage site, Hampi. The city is known for its rich historical background, industrial importance, and growing tourism industry. It has developed into an important commercial and transportation hub, connected by major rail and road networks such as the Hospet Junction railway station and National Highway 50.
