Ivan Sechenov

Ivan Sechenov (1829–1905) was a Russian Empire citizen who worked as a physiologist, psychologist, mathematician, and engineer. Born in Sechenovo, he received his education at Imperial Moscow University, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, and Odesa University. He earned a Doctor of Medicine degree and served as an Active State Councillor. Sechenov was a member of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences and received the Demidov Prize. His doctoral advisor was Johannes Peter Müller, and he supervised students including Nikolai Wedensky, Viktor Pashutin, Alexander Samoilov, and Vasily Florinsky.

Sechenov’s primary fields of work were physiology and psychology. He is the author of the work *Reflexes of the Brain*. He died in Moscow and is buried in Novodevichy Cemetery.
