American musician (1917–2002)
James "Jimmy" Elwyn Maxwell was born on April 2, 1927 on a farmstead in Quenemo, Kansas. He was the son of Walter Leonard Maxwell and Pauline Elizabeth Green-Maxwell. Jimmy took up playing the violin when he was seven years old, then played the baritone horn. When he was about 12 years old he started playing the trumpet. It was his instrument of choice. He graduated high school in Quinter, Kansas in May 1945. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army and learned a lot about music while in the Arm
