John Hollander

John Hollander (1929–2013) was an American poet, literary critic, writer, and university teacher. Born in Manhattan, he was educated at Columbia University and worked at Yale University, Hunter College, and Connecticut College. His professional focus included literature, literary criticism, and editing. He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Hollander received the Guggenheim Fellowship, the MacArthur Fellows Program award, the Bollingen Prize, and the title of Sterling Professor. His notable works include *Rhyme's Reason*, *Committed To Memory 5c*, *Andrew Marvell*, and *Poetry for Young People American Poetry, Modern Poetry*. His archives are held at the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, and his works are in the collection of the National Gallery of Art. He wrote in English.
