Ela alcançou a fama após lançar seu primeiro single, "Leave (Get Out)" em fevereiro de 2004. A música alcançou a 12ª posição no Billboard Hot 100, e permaneceu cinco semanas em 1º lugar no Mainstream Top 40, fazendo dela a artista mais jovem a ter um single número um nos Estados Unidos. Seu primeiro álbum de estúdio, debutou em 4º lugar da Billboard 200. Seu segundo álbum, The High Road foi lançado em 17 de outubro de 2006, e estrou na 3ª posição da Billboard 200.
