Thomas Jonathan Ossoff ( /ˈɒsɒf/ OSS-off; born February 16, 1987) is an American politician who has served as the senior United States senator from Georgia since 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, he is the youngest incumbent U.S. senator. Before his election to Congress, he was a documentary and investigative filmmaker.
Ossoff worked as a national security staffer and legislative assistant for U.S. representative Hank Johnson. Afterward, he was managing director of an investigative production company that worked with reporters to document corruption in foreign countries. In 2017, he ran in the special election for Georgia's 6th congressional district, narrowly losing a seat that had long been considered a Republican stronghold. In 2021, Ossoff won the 2020–21 U.S. Senate election in Georgia, beating incumbent Republican senator David Perdue in a runoff election.
