Józef Wybicki

Józef Rufin Wybicki was a Polish poet, politician, lawyer, and playwright born in Będomin in 1747. He held the ranks of senator and general, and was a member of the Targowica Confederation. His citizenship included the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Duchy of Warsaw, and the Kingdom of Prussia. Wybicki wrote in Polish, with his career spanning from 1775 to 1822. His notable work is the text for "Poland Is Not Yet Lost," and he also wrote tragedies.

He received the Order of the White Eagle, the Officer of the Legion of Honour, and the Order of Saint Stanislaus. Other works include *Dodatek do pamiętników Wybickiego odnoszący się do życia Andrzeja Zamojskiego z rękopismu Wybickiego wydany*, *Poezje wybrane*, *Dramaty Józefa Wybickiego*, and *Pamiętniki*. Wybicki died in Manieczki in 1822. He is described in the Nordisk familjebok and the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary.
