Judea Pearl

Judea Pearl is an American computer scientist, engineer, philosopher, and university teacher born in Tel Aviv in 1936. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy and has worked at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he was also educated. His academic background includes studies at Rutgers University, New York University Tandon School of Engineering, and the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Pearl is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Royal Academy of Engineering of Spain.

His notable work includes the development of the Bayesian network and contributions to causal inference. He is the author of works such as *Introduction to Causal Inference*, *The Book of Why*, *El libro del porqué*, *Readings in uncertain reasoning*, and *Causal Inference in Statistics*. Pearl has received the Turing Award, the Benjamin Franklin Medal, the Harvey Prize, and the Rumelhart Prize. He speaks English, Modern Hebrew, and Hebrew, and identifies as an atheist. His child is Daniel Pearl.
