== Etymology == The name Kadayanallur comes from "Kadaikaaleeswara", the name of the presiding deity of Kadayaleeswarar kovil, a Hindu temple in Kadayanallur. Kadayanallur was ruled by Sungamuthu dynasty from 1723 AD to 1914 AD.
