== Etymology == The name Katembe derives from the Tembe people, a subgroup of the wider Nguni-speaking communities inhabiting southern Mozambique and parts of Eswatini and KwaZulu-Natal. The Tembe chieftaincy historically controlled the lower Maputo River region, establishing long-standing cultural and political links with the Swazi monarchy.[citation needed]
