King Tubby, né Osbourne Ruddock le 28 janvier 1941, est un ingénieur du son et producteur jamaïcain, originaire de Kingston, il est assassiné dans son studio, à Kingston, le 6 février 1989, par un tueur anonyme dont l'unique motivation semble se limiter au vol de son argent, de son revolver et de sa chaîne en or. King Tubby est souvent identifié comme étant à l'origine du dub. Il est à l'origine de la plupart des techniques de production du dub que sont les effets caractéristiques du style, et qui mèneront plus tard au développement du remix.
