It was located around the town Kirn, which was the seat of Kirn-Land, but not part of the Verbandsgemeinde. On 1 January 2020 it was merged into the new Verbandsgemeinde Kirner Land.

Die Verbandsgemeinde Kirner Land liegt im westlichen Teil des Landkreises Bad Kreuznach, inmitten einer traumhaft schönen Mittelgebirgslandschaft. Das Tal der Nahe trennt die 134 km² große Verbandsgemeinde in einen südlichen und einen nördlichen Teil. Hier leben rund 18.000 Einwohner in einundzwanzig Ortsgemeinden.
