Košice ([ˈkɔʃɪʦɛ] , deutsch Kaschau, ungarisch Kassa, Romani Kascha, neulateinisch Cassovia) ist eine Stadt am Fluss Hornád im Osten der Slowakei nahe der Grenze zu Ungarn. Mit ihren 238.138 Einwohnern (Stand: 31. Dezember 2020) ist sie nach Bratislava die zweitgrößte Stadt des Landes. Košice ist zentraler Ort der Ostslowakei und Sitz eines Landschaftsverbands (Košický kraj). Die Stadt gliedert sich in vier Verwaltungsbezirke (okresy). Die Stadt ist griechisch-katholischer und evangelisch-reformierter Bischofssitz. Seit 1995 befindet sich hier auch der Sitz des römisch-katholischen Erzbistums. Košice ist überdies Universitätsstadt, Sitz des Verfassungsgerichtes, kulturelles Zentrum mit mehreren Museen, Galerien und Theater und ein Zentrum der Volksgruppe der Roma der Slowakei. Das Wahrzeichen der Stadt ist der gotische Dom der Heiligen Elisabeth. Die Stadt war gemeinsam mit Marseille Kulturhauptstadt Europas 2013.
