Lake Malawi

Lake Malawi are an indie-pop band founded by Albert Černý (lead vocal) and Jeroným Šubrt (bass) in 2013. They represented the Czech Republic at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with " Friend of a Friend" (co-written by Albert) placing 11th in the Grand Final. On their last album " The Great Video Game Crush " (2022), Lake Malawi collaborated with The 1975 saxophonist John Waugh. He discovered them playing in a small club in Newcastle (UK) and joined them live at the Metronome Prague festival in 2024 recorded by the Czech Television. Lake Malawi have been working on new music for over two years, with new releases coming in 2025 . Lake Malawi have been a band for over ten years, performing more than 400 shows across the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, Israel, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United Kingdom. They have opened for Thirty Seconds to Mars , The Kooks , and Mika in Prague, and have appeared at major festivals like Colours of Ostrava, The Great Escape (UK) and Waves Vienna (AT). Their music is regularly played on leading Czech radio stations such as Evropa 2, Český rozhlas, and Fajn Rádio. It also features as the jingle for Leo Express (a local railway company) and has been widely used in Czech films, including Ženy v pokušení .
