Langenthal (Berndeutsch Langetau, Langetu oder Langete) ist eine Stadt und eine politische Gemeinde im Verwaltungskreis Oberaargau des Kantons Bern in der Schweiz. Bekannt ist Langenthal dadurch, dass die Stadt lange Zeit als Durchschnittsstadt der Schweiz galt. Auf den 1. Januar 2010 fusionierte die Gemeinde Untersteckholz mit Langenthal zur Gemeinde Langenthal. Bereits am 1. Januar 1898 hatte sich die Gemeinde Schoren mit Langenthal vereinigt. Am 1. Januar 2021 fusionierte auch Obersteckholz zur Gemeinde Langenthal.
