Leví (hebreo: לֵוִי, «devoto, unido») fue el tercer hijo de Jacob y Lea. En cuanto a su vida, apenas se sabe que nació en la Mesopotamia, que participó en la conspiración de sus hermanos contra José y que estuvo presente en la reconciliación. En la narrativa bíblica, Simeón y Leví destruyeron la ciudad de Siquem y mataron a la población masculina del lugar, como venganza por la violación de Dinah, hermana de aquellos, a manos del príncipe Siquem. Jacob, en su lecho de muerte le recordó este acto. Su fuerte desaprobación fue posiblemente la razón por la que pasó por alto a estos dos hermanos y entregó al cuarto hijo, Judá, la primogenitura de la que fue excluida Rubén por su conducta. Leví tuvo tres hijos: Gersón, Kohath y Merari. Murió a la edad de 137 años. Tuvo una gran descendencia formando a los levitas y presidiendo la Tribu de Leví.
